Proverbs 10:4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness-thought to be an anchient Hebrew proverb.
In his 'Advancement of Learning' (1605) Francis Bacon wrote: 'Cleanness of body was ever deemed to proceed from a due reverence to God.'
